ARTISTS STATEMENT
Mediums- At present I work in paint, textiles and drawing. When I am working in different mediums, I can experiment which is important to me and most importantly I can link ideas discovered while experimenting.
Colour- Since childhood, colour has been a constant joy and fascination most especially when I am painting. I love mixing colour and generally exploring colour.
Drawing- Drawing is important to me as it is an immediate way to respond to something. To draw with a pencil or charcoal is again an exploration for me and something that I never get tired of. I do a lot of life drawing, this is a wonderful way to improve your drawing and learn about every aspect of drawing from exploring form to drawing tonally. I love to look at famous artist's drawings because they are so revealing of personality.
Print & Textiles- Some of my work has a graphic quality, so during the year I will often make a few prints. I love all the processes involved in making a print.
Using textiles I explore personal themes using free machine embroidery and hand embroidery.
Themes - I like to explore personal themes that fascinate me such as memory and dreams. The imagination and subconscious is very important to me. Often in my work there is a psychological aspect which can be autobiographical.
